Just what's on my mind today...

Link/Tip of the day:

Remember I wrote about the government using eminent domain to take private property and give it to other private organizations? It looks like someone is wanting to take one of the Supreme Court justice's homes in just such a deal. I hope he succeeds.

More boring stuff about my life....

Well, I took 624 pictures at the PrideFest. I had a great time. Hung out with Ci and D and some of their neighbors. Drank an incredible amount of alcohol throughout the day. Pics available here. Some of my favorites:

A view of the parade, looking west down Colfax

Ci and D with their neighbor friends in the background

Go grandma!

Yes it does, my friend. Yes it does.

Mayor Hickenlooper with a Hawaiian shirt and a cheesy grin

Even the little ones were out and about

This guy was trying to sell D a vacation for gay folk

Some of the booths downtown by the library

A Denver Cycle Slut with D

Another little one

A friend of mine from work with his boyfriend

This guy Joe whipped out his guitar and played and sang for us at the Barker Lounge

L hamming it up for the camera at Broadways

Just thought I'd share!

Google has a new service: maps.google.com. Of course, someone has already put it to good use.

More boring stuff about my life....

Well, it's been a whole month. It's official: I am a slacker.

Lots of drama at work. Sexual harassment, racial discrimination, talk of lawsuits.... All on top of the fact that my company just got bought by one of our major competitors. [sarcasm] Fun. [/sarcasm]

Yes, I am still looking for a new job. Went on an interview last week, too. Haven't heard back from them, but I got a good impression about the place. I hope they call.

Got a funny fortune in a fortune cookie the other day: A happy message is on its way. I can only hope.

Been busy buying things now that I am making OK money again. Sold a laptop that I bought used (I actually made $50 on the sale!) and combined the money with some savings to buy a new PowerBook. Got the top-of-the-line 15-inch G4 with the 128MB video card, 1GB of RAM and the 100GB hard drive. ::drool:: I have this kickass laptop that is more than three times as fast as my desktop G4, and here I am, typing this on the desktop. Next purchase will be an upgrade for this old beast.

Bought a Sun Ultra 10 for shits and grins, too. Got it for unbelievably cheap. Much cheaper than they go for on eBay, even. It will soon be my web server, replacing the dual PII 450 Compaq Proliant POS that is currently serving the sites up. I can see why many folks joke about Solaris, calling it Slowaris. I thought a 64-bit 440MHz RISC processor would be a bit snappier. ::sigh:: The Compaq will likely become a file server for sharing files between the PC and the Macs.

Took the Canon lens mentioned in my previous post for a test drive around Downtown Denver. Pics available here.

I have started advertising for Macintosh repair. Got my first client the other day and I took care of her original 1998 iMac. She's a student at CU, and said she liked the service so much that she'd spread the word. Nice. I can use the business.

In other news, it appears that it is now legal for local governments to seize people's homes and businesses -- even against their will -- for private economic development. Looks like the town of Freeport, Texas is already using this decision to "appropriate" private waterfront property owned by several seafood companies in order to create a marina. This ruling has serious implications on personal property rights here in the United States, and I believe that this is a bad decision on behalf of the Supreme Court.

Another hot topic (pun intended) is the proposed flag-burning amendment. I believe similarly to fellow blogger Andrew Tavani:

Frankly, I've never felt compelled to burn a flag... but, I can understand that some people may feel so disgruntled that burning a flag is the only way to express their disillusion. And as long as the flag being burnt is their own private property, I respect their right to do so. Furthermore, if an amendment prohibiting flag-burning is passed one day exactly how far down the slippery slope will we slide[?]

Today is Denver's Pride Fest, so I am going to go hang out with some friends this morning. With the camera, of course. I took quite a few pictures of last year's event, all of which were lost when my iBook was stolen. Bleh. Hopefully nothing like this will happen this year!

OK, gonna run.
