Just what's on my mind today...

Link/Tip of the day:

I was here in the autumn of 1991 at the tender age of 15. I still remember it quite well. I also remember the vendor outside calling us "shits" (in English) because we didn't buy his wares. N, a friend of mine who tagged along, told him off and displayed the proper declension of the verb "to shit" to this fellow.

More boring stuff about my life....

Well, today (I guess it is yesterday for those of you with a normal sleep schedule) was a most interesting day! I got a call last night around 11:30pm. It was from an online friend named Vi. Vi and I met a while ago when I joined a Yahoo! group for transit drivers. Vi works for Greyhound, and said that he would be coming up to Denver rather unexpectedly. We made plans to meet for lunch.

He called around 11:30am the next morning -- he was in town. I was in the shower when he called, and quickly dried off, got dressed and went to pick him up at the Greyhound terminal.

We parked my car, and took the free Mall shuttle up and down 16th Street Mall until we decided on a place to eat -- the Paramount Cafe. The food was good.

After lunch, we took the Mall Shuttle to Civic Center, where we walked around the capitol a bit. Then we headed back to the car and drove all over Denver. He really got the "grand tour." After Denver, we headed out to Green Mountain and to Golden. We got to drive through the Coors plant parking lot, and got to check out the city of Golden a bit, too. Golden is really a beautiful town. I would love to live there if it weren't for the commute to get to work back in Denver.

Vi took me to the Greyhound parking lot, where I got to see the inside of a TNM&O Van Hool C2045 and a Greyhound MCI G-model, both of which I had never seen the interiors of, before. The G-model was definitely different than what I was expecting. I figured the dash layout would be more similar to that of an E-model. Boy was I wrong! About the only similarities were the dash switches -- they are the same size and use the same indecipherable icons that the E- uses.

After the bus exploring, I took him back to the Greyhound terminal, where he rode a bus home.

I installed a 500GB RAID in my Mac today. ::drool:: It is FAST. I used several Maxtor drives and an ACARD ATA-133 controller. Let me just say that this setup SCREAMS! I love it. I as almost completely out of disk space with my 120GB WD drive and the 60GB drive that came with the Mac. I took out the 60GB drive and will use that in my PC now that I have 620GB available in my Mac. That should last me for a while. :-)

Because of the events that went on today, I didn't get a chance to do my laundry. I guess I will just have to do it when I get home from work tomorrow. Oh well.

I'm tired. It's about bedtime.

'Night.

More boring stuff about my life....

I have worked for the past 13 days without a day off. Today and tomorrow I have off. I have already volunteered to work on Thursday, which is one of my scheduled days off. Fun stuff. This paycheck better be good.

I traveled to Vail and Eagle, CO as part of my work this past week. Nice place, really. It isn't even that far from Denver. It took about 4 hours to get there, but that is because it was snowing out that way. A friend from work who has made the trip several times said that he can make it in 2.5 hours if the weather is nice.

I haven't had much time to do anything of a personal nature. I need to relax and unwind a bit. I have lit some candles and will watch some TV. Maybe have something to drink, too. I need a "me" day.

Tomorrow, I think I will do the chores: laundry, cleaning, etc. Fun.

Oh well, off to watch some TV.

More boring stuff about my life....

Wow. Two whole days off in a row. Woohoo!

Yesterday I actually stayed home all day. I didn't even shower. I watched TV mostly all day. And, amazingly, I didn't even _touch_ my computers. I think that is the first day since I went out of town that I haven't checked my e-mail or surfed my daily sites.

It is 4am and I am doing laundry. Fun schtuff. Today I mostly watched TV again. I cleaned up a little bit, too.

My cough is still crazy. I had someone I work with tell me it sounds like "croup" to her. She was a nurse, she kept explaining, and had heard it many times before. OK, so I look up croup online. Yes, it sounds like what I have. Except, it appears that only babies get it. WTF? If she was a nurse as she repeatedly claimed, you'd think she'd at least know it was a pediatric illness. So I went looking for instances of it in adults. No mention could be found. But reading more about it in depth, it turns out that it is just another word for the flu. Genius. I could have told anyone that.

Oh well. Need to retrieve the load out of the dryer.

Still quite sick. A co-worker recommended Mucinex after hearing my cough. I bought some at the grocery store on my way home from work. I took one tablet, and within an hour I could breathe again. Quite surprising. The mucus broke down into a much runnier type of mucus.... I could cough it out, and blow it out quite easily.

I was able to get some good, restful sleep in. When I woke up, the medicine was still working, too! One tablet lasts 12 hours, so I took another just before leaving for work. I didn't have a congestion problem all night, and it helped with the coughing, too.

Today, I forgot to take one before leaving for work and I was miserable all day at work. I took one as soon as I got home, and I'm feeling much better already. They're expensive, but I think the price is well worth it.

I'm working tomorrow, even though it is one of my regular days off. Fun.

Jackie has been IMing, e-mailing and leaving voicemails. Last night she came to my work. I don't mind seeing her, in fact, I haven't seen her in a while, but does the constant IMing, e-mailing, calling and now _following_ make her seem like a stalker?

Tired. Must sleep to get up for more of the same, tomorrow.

PurPortal is a great site to check out those chain e-mails to see if they are true, or bunk. Remember kids: Don't forward e-mail virus warnings!

I am nastily sick. I went to work anyways. Stupid me. A coworker suggested I drink heated chicken broth and eat saltines. She said that is what her sister (who is a nurse) gives patients at the hospital. Does anyone else have any home remedies that work for a nasty sore throat and cough? Post your favorite remedies in the chat section.

I stopped at a McDonald's just to pick up a bunch of their little honey packets. I used 13 of them today -- one each in every cup of hot tea I made. My throat feels slightly better, but every time I cough, the pain comes back....

Another co-worker related that when she was younger, she used to cough like I do (for those that know me and have heard me cough, you know it sounds almost like a dog barking... a loud, hacking, "death" cough). She also said that after several days of coughing like that, she actually broke blood vessels in her throat and she coughed up blood! Ewww. I don't think I am that bad off. Yet.

Miserable and sleepy. Must rest.

'Night.

More boring stuff about my life....

Work goes well. I worked the day shift today, something I am not used to doing. I got up at 5am, when I am used to going to bed at 8am! I am pretty exhausted, but am trying to stay up until 8am to maintain a regular sleep schedule.

I went out to dinner tonight, something I haven't done in a while. I figured I would enjoy something in my boring, repetitive, life....

Today I received an e-mail from one of my old high school teachers. That was a pretty random occurrence, and kinda surprised me. I don't think she's seen the site because she sent the e-mail to my old address using my old name. I gave her a short version of the events of the past year or so (I can't believe it's been a year already!), and told her to check here and on my site for the detailed info. I sure hope she isn't freaked out by it all -- I remember she was a very cool person, so I am not _too_ afraid, but you never know. I was wrong about some of my other friends....

I am sick. While at work today, my throat started bothering me big time. I was coughing and hacking pretty much the whole day. A co-worker asked me not to die on her, LOL! On the way home from Pete's, I stopped at the drug store and picked up some Halls cough drops. They've been helping a little bit, but my throat still hurts pretty bad. I drank so much water today to try to soothe my throat that my bladder hurt! I've never had that feeling before.... I know, maybe that was a little TMI....

I went to the GIC tonight. I ran into a friend from there at my work (of all places!) and she said I had some mail waiting there. I went for the mail and stayed for the meeting. It was good to see some old faces and some new ones, too! I hadn't been to the meetings since before December! I guess my work schedule was really killing me....

In any case, my throat hurts, I am tired and I have a fever. Off to bed with me.
